We have found the staff easy to communicate with and a willingness to address any issues. The company has good internal processes covering such things as resource and building consents, house design, project costs, contracts, work schedules, subcontractors and material supplies.
The company work with a number of reputable subcontractors and this was key to a quality build. It was important to us that the subcontractors were treated fairly, particularly as all projects can have glitches. We noted comments from subcontractors that they felt comfortable with their relationship with Bay Builders. We also noted that Bay Builders appeared to have a stable work force which can be a sign of the company being a fair employer.
Our build was completed on time and to a good standard.

However, the property agent who sold us the section recommended that Bay Builders would be worth considering in the local area. From our initial meeting with Bevin on the section, it was clear that we were going to get a different level of local insight and service compared to the other providers we had been in discussions with. A major factor being most of the national franchises were serving customers in the area from Whangarei and were not based locally.
During the process Bevin and Donna supported us through the many decisions you need to take when embarking on this sort of project. This was the first time we have built our own house and Bevin and Donna were extremely supportive, easy to deal with, always deliver on what they commit to and work really well together as a team. They were always calm throughout the process and took our many questions and attempts to change things on the plan in their stride.
One of the most valuable things when using Bay Builders was the fact that Bevin has amassed a selection of the best tradespeople in the local area so when dealing with Bay Builders you are also dealing with the premium concrete layers, blockwork guys, roofers, plumbers and painters etc. The more people you speak to around town as you go through the build process re-confirm this again and again – the word is that Bay Builders do a great job and have the best suppliers in the area. It was not unusual to have a conversation with someone where they were asking who we were using for the build and when we told them Bay Builders, the first words would be ‘Oh Bevin?!? Good Builder!”
